"THE ASSIMILATORS" Newsletter 001 - June 20th, 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all!

Our SETI@HOME team is growing by leaps and bounds, so I thought maybe a semi-regular newsletter might be in order. I'll be sending out a new one every 2 weeks or so, depending on how busy things are (or how bored I am).

First off, a BIG welcome to all our new members!
WELCOME!

I usually like to welcome each new member personally, but there has been so much growth of late, that I lost track. Smile

We are now up to 46 members.
Ask someone to join today!

Recent stats:

Members (with credit) 46
Total credit 329,751.80
Recent average credit 11,478.30

----------------------------------------

I just put together a new feature for all team members.
Our very own toolbar can now be downloaded from:
http://theassimilators.ourtoolbar.com/

All our team links in one handy toolbar.
It also has a search feature, messaging, e-mail checking and a very nice internet radio. (which I'm listening to as I type)

And much, much more......

------------------------------------------

Don't forget we have a team forum:
http://theassimilators.informe.com

Come check it out.
Post a message, don't leave me all alone. Sad

---------------------------------------------

I guess that's all for now.

Take care everyone
and keep on crunching!

Topic of the Day:
OPTIMIZING SETI@HOME

How would you like SETI@HOME to perform with up to a 100% boost?
It's as easy as running a benchmark tool.

Download this file:
http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=69
(Without graphics)

Or:
http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=70
(With graphics)

This is a benchmark tool that will determine how best to optimize your
installation. Shut down BOINC, start the benchmark tool. When the
benchmark has completed, simply press the "install" button.

Restart BOINC and look in the Message Tab for "Found app_info.xml;
using anonymous platform" If you see this, optimization was
successful.

To read more about optimized apps, go to:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=31810&nowrap=true#518095

I've been running an optimized SETI@HOME on 5 machines now, with no
issues and a substantial boost in credits. Smile

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Hello "The Assimilators" team members!

It's been awhile since I sent out the last newsletter and with recent
SETI@HOME developments I figured I'd better get off my behind and get
it done.

SETI@HOME is about to bring it's new multi-beam data fully online and
this requires that you all upgrade your clients to the newest version
here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php
Please do this as soon as possible.

If you are running an "optimized" client, please delete or rename
"app_info.xml" as the current optimizer is not compatible with the new
client.

This will be generally found in
"program files/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu"

The news is that a new optimizer will be ready soon. I'll let you all
know when that happens.

You may notice your RAC drop a bit when you start using the new
client. That is perfectly normal as they have made some adjustments on
how credits are calculated. It will all level off.

You may have noticed that there is currently very little data
available for your clients to process at this time. This is due to the
switchover to the new multibeam data and several tweaks they are
making to their systems. Very soon there will be work for our clients.

On another note, our team is doing great!
Fairly soon we will pass our 2nd million credits!
Whooohooo!

We're currently 13th in Canada and 644th worldwide.
If you have any friends or family, please recruit them! For our low
team numbers (only 67 members) we are outdoing most teams out there.

That's all for now.

Please remember that we have a team forum at:
http://theassimilators.informe.com/

Somebody get the ball rolling by posting something, will ya! I'm all
alone! Sad

And you can view out team page here:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=115923&sort_by=expavg_credit&offset=0

And our country and world standings are here:
http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_graph.php?pr=sah&id=115923

Take care and thank you for being part of "The Assimilators"!
